About Us
Dave Tribbett Jr., a farmer in the Delmarva area, was looking for ways to solve the chronic issue of how to make his farm environmentally friendly AND economically-viable. Traditional chicken litter wasn’t the low cost, sustainable fertilizer it first appeared to be. The phosphorus accumulation in the soil, risk of erosion, and up to 40% leaching left much of the savings washing away.
In 2017 Tribbett founded Mid-Atlantic Organic Resource Company and began creating solutions to address the issues they and their fellow farmers face every day: how to increase crop yields while driving down costs and be long-term stewards of the land.
The MAORC compost and chicken bedding solutions Dave and his team developed are designed as a solution to meet those priorities. The compost “cooks” an array of organic matter that boosts crop yields, increases soil vitality and doesn’t leach off fields. Mescanthus grass, a component of the compost, makes for quality, lower-cost, healthier bedding for chickens, boosting flock yields.
Today, Dave and his team work with farms throughout the Delmarva region to accept certified waste and provide compost and bedding. Other agricultural markets are learning about MAORC and are clamoring for sites to open in their areas. The partners are beginning to explore expansion into these new geographies.
